What evidence is there that climate change is influencing nature's "normal" cycles? We can see phenological impacts to timing of annual migrations and shifting natural zones. The human fingerprint on our planet’s changing climate can now be seen on individual extreme weather events, such as the extremely warm US temperatures during the start of 2017 – which in turn led to some of the earliest springtime phenological events on record. Whereas, public conversations about climate change tend to focus on far-off impacts like changing sea-levels and Arctic sea ice coverage – events that are generally perceived to be non-threatening to daily American life -- how can we turn the conversation to impacts that are more tactile and local? 

In this Speaker Series presentation by Dr. Jeremy Hoffman, Climate & Earth Science Specialist at the Science Museum of Virginia, will also discuss the tools we can leverage to tell the story of local climate change and its impacts on our health, recreation, and daily lives. His engaging talk will include tactics for better communicating with different types of audiences that resonate and can help open minds and lead to action.
