Starting in late 2015, the City of Decatur instituted a High Performance Building Ordinance, which requires all new residential and commercial buildings to be certified under an existing green building program. Other Georgia communities are considering similar building standards with an eye towards sustainability and environmental benefits. Despite their benefits, could high performance building standards have drawbacks, such as stifling innovation? Should green buidling be mandated by policy, or should it be largely driven by consumer demand? Join Trees Atlanta and SK Collaborative's Single Family Project Manager, Samantha Morton, for a presentation on the future of green building certifications in Georgia and a lively lunch-time conversation as we debate the answers to these questions and more.
