Kudzu and ivy. Honeysuckle and privet. Dandelion and pokeweed...the list goes on.

You know these plants -- they are the ones that pop up in your yard or nearby greenspace uninvited, and can pose quite the challenge to eradicate. But what might these plants teach us about our soils, our gardens, and our ecosystems? What might we learn about ourselves from our language, practices, and attitudes regarding these unwelcome plants, and can we improve our relationships with these plants by simply reframing our perspective? Let's explore these questions together, then we'll go a step further to discuss medicinal remedies offered by these plants, including traditional and modern uses and preparations from around the world as well as those with roots right here in the Southeast.

This discussion will be facilitated by Christina Gibson, Trees Atlanta staff member since 2013. Christina is also a permaculture design instructor with the local design firm Shades of Green and an apprentice and volunteer apotheker with the Herbalista Free Clinic. She has been studying herbal medicine, primarily under the tutelage of Patricia Kyritsi Howell and Lorna Mauney-Brodek, since 2015.
