Master Gardener Haylene is called the Garden Queen for a good reason! By starting the West End Community Garden, she's created a safe and healthy haven for those looking to learn more about gardening in an urban environment. Her goal is to teach people how to identify, grow and prepare healthy food, especially in at risk communities.
Join Trees Atlanta and Haylene the Garden Queen for this lively interactive workshop. We'll learn invaluable tips on growing edible shrubs such as Hibiscus Sorrel, pumpkin, and other native plants; and even learn how to make her famous Jamaican inspired hibiscus tea and pumpkin soup!
You won't want to miss this opportunity to learn from the Garden Queen!
Born in Port Antonio, Jamaica, Haylene is a descendant of the Maroon culture and has strong family ties to farming.Coming from five generations of farmers, she quickly picked up aspects of commercial farming which eventually led her and her sister to starting their own community based garden in low-income community of color. The West End Community Garden is located in Historic West End and is a safe and healthy haven for those looking to learn more about gardening in an urban environment. Her goal is to teach people how to identify, grow and prepare healthy food, especially in at risk communities. By doing so, people will be able to tackle conditions, deficiencies, and ailments that cause diseases. She also wishes to spread her knowledge of container gardening, raised beds gardening, hanging baskets, and other methods of growing in limited spaces. Haylene Green is a nurse by passion, printer by trade, and a farmer by DNA.
