Saturdays, July 27th thru September 14th

(excluding 8/31 - Labor Day Weekend)

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Program Fee: $100

TreeKeeper Training is for individuals who want to protect the urban forest and seek a broad overview of practical tree care skills. The program includes 7 consecutive Saturday sessions (excluding Labor Day weekend). Sessions include indoor & outdoor activities, lively presentations by subject matter experts, and engaging hands-on demonstrations.

Each 3-hour session is taught by Trees Atlanta staff, certified arborists, and educators from partner universities. Upon completion of this program, graduates will have the option to continue their learning journey through volunteering with Trees Atlanta. Come build your knowledge and skills as a steward of the urban forest in your own neighborhood and throughout our city.

TreeKeeper Training curriculum explores:

  • Atlanta’s Trees & Urban Forests
  • Tree Selection and Care
  • Tree Diseases
  • Invasive Plants
  • Proper Tree Pruning Techniques
  • Project Leadership Skills

All students receive an Eastern Trees Peterson Field Guide and a native tree sapling. To receive a "Certificate of Completion" students must attend 6 of 7 sessions in this program.

Students who opt to continue with additional volunteer requirements earn a Certified TreeKeeper hat and is recognized as part of our special team of Certified Volunteers.

What's required to become a Certified TreeKeeper?

After you complete this course, you might want to work toward becoming a Certified TreeKeeper. TreeKeepers are among a special group of Certified Volunteers who are essential to Trees Atlanta's mission and work. Certified Volunteers have completed extensive classroom and hands-on training AND have met certain volunteering requirements, including helping to lead projects with other volunteers.

Each Certified TreeKeeper can choose the way they want to be a volunteer leader for Trees Atlanta’s programs. Certified TreeKeepers plan and lead tree planting, maintenance, and forest restoration projects with staff support.

To become a "Certified TreeKeeper" you must have a TreeKeeper Training Certificate of Completion, attend a project leadership training session, and fulfill 24 hours of volunteer project leadership.

We'll help you all along the way!
