Why do many of Atlanta's communities, particularly communities of color lack not only coffee shops and grocery stores, but the trees and parks that are known to bring economic development? How do we work together to change attitudes and understanding within (and about) environmental justice communities? Majora Carter believes that the reasons to plant more trees need to include better understanding of the economic incentives for green infrastructure investments.

Majora Carter is a leading urban revitalization strategy consultant, real estate developer, and Peabody Award winning broadcaster. She is responsible for the creation and implementation of numerous green-infrastructure projects, policies, and job training and placement systems. As a MacArthur-winning activist Majora Carter fought for environmental justice in the South Bronx, an example of how minority neighborhoods suffer most from flawed urban policy. She has helped connect tech industry pioneers such as Etsy, Gust, FreshDirect, Google, and Cisco to diverse communities at all levels, and she continues to drive resources that value diversity into the communities left out of previous economic growth trends.
