Speaker: Evan Mallen

From the Amazon to Atlanta, increasing urbanization and resource extraction continue to threaten natural habitats and ecological processes. But new environmental planning strategies can help mitigate these trends even in the densest urban environments. In this talk, you'll learn about the ecological impacts of habitat fragmentation, and be able to identify and apply wildlife corridor and greenspace design strategies to protect wildlife.

Evan Mallen is a Ph.D Candidate in Georgia Tech's School of City and Regional Planning and researcher in the Urban Climate Lab. Evan teaches Urban Environmental Planning & Design and a Sustainable Cities Studio. Evan's research focuses on planning for climate change, closing the gap between scientists and planning practitioners regarding urban heat island mitigation and public health. Evan also manages the Georgia Tech Climate Network, a dense collection of temperature sensors spread throughout Georgia Tech's campus and the Atlanta metro region to study various microclimates and the greater Atlanta urban heat island.

This event is made possible through support from the City of Atlanta.
