Trees Atlanta's "2019 Atlanta Champion Tree" list will be published on Georgia Arbor Day, and we're excited to have our volunteer Champion Tree master, Eli Dickerson lead a walking tour on the East Palisades trail! Eli's insights and knowledge about our native trees is impressive.
Ever see the Chattahoochee River from a cliff top overlook? Here's a chance to join Eli, a knowledgeable ecologist and tree expert, as he guides us through this delightful trail in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. The walk will take us to the Champion Tree pawpaw and a possible Champion walnut, among other native species.
Some tips for joining us on this walk:
- The trail is not stroller friendly. Supervised children are welcome (however please no dogs).
- Plan on a 1.5-2 mile hike that’s moderately strenuous.
- Bring some water and please dress appropriately for forecasted weather.
- Parking is limited, and it gets crowded on weekends, so we encourage carpooling and arriving early. There's a small per car parking fee charged by the park. We're told the fee is currently $5 (and is good for parking anywhere in the recreation area for the day. Some lots take only cash/others only credit card (be prepared).
