Dotted throughout the city of Atlanta are greenways, forested land purchased and conserved for the protection of Atlanta's network of creeks, streams and rivers. Just minutes away from Downtown, in the southwestern part of the city along Utoy Creek, are the Beecher Hills and Hampton Greenways, which have dense hardwood and bottomland forests that feel like they are far removed from the urban core of Atlanta. Join us as we explore these fantastic greenways and their trees, while learning about how they benefit our urban city. This is a joint program of Trees Atlanta and the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management, who are working together to protect and restore the greenway forests.

The Greenway Acquisition Project was undertaken by the City of Atlanta in connection with the settlement of an enforcement action taken jointly by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD), and Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper Fund, Inc., the Chattachoochee RiverKeeper Inc., and W. Robert Hancock, Jr., for violations of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act and the Georgia Water Quality Control Act.
